I saw these adds on TeeVee before I noticed the banner adds here. If these esuvees are do dangerous maybe we should have a special license endorsement to drive one?
Yeah, really. It's an apalling misuse of taxpayers dollars.

The only counter argument to that is that it may make people afraid of SUVs, or make them pay attention to loading, speed and tire pressure.
They do kill other people when they crash or roll over.
A better way to spend the money would be to add a safety rating to the crash test rating (i.e. a suv might get 5 stars for crash test, but 2 stars for safety, which indicates how likely you are to die or kill others with this car).

People whose lives might be saved thanks to educating people who thik SUVs are just like cars might disagree.
They aren't safety campaigns, but this isn't even in the same ballpark as the anti-drug campaigns as far as stupidity goes.
Can we do it again, mom? Can we, can we?

On the other hand, they could just remove the exemption for the gas guzzler tax that SUVs currently get, which would result in both more tax revenue and fewer SUVs on the roads.
Having to spend $2300 on gas guzzler tax for a 17mpg Audi station wagon is stupid when a 9mpg Ford Expidition goes gas-guzzler tax free.

Or do both!

If you mean taxing both, thats what I was suggesting. Or by both do you mean tax SUVs + run the Esuvee ads?

I actually kind of think the ad is well done.
It's incredible Flash but it's also Fukkin' Stupid?.
I think I've actually decided to never do Flash again after seeing that. A $100 HTML page would have sufficed, yet some "designer" suckered them into this frigging overly elaborate metaphoric mess. The only people that are going to be transfixed by this and explore each section are 8 year olds and Flash designers.

The TV spots are kind of cool, though.
Oh and by the way, being in the key demo, I must say that the animation makes me WANT a GMC Eucon.

I'm even more appalled by the loading speed of that site...

The first is sort of a ridiculous comment. How would someone know whether or not his life had been "saved"? Secondly, I don't think people would really even "get" the ad. To be honest, I didn't right away. Maybe I really am as stupid as the lefties on the board think I am.
The money would be better spent with warning documentation or whatever, not some stupid CGI ad that doesn't even directly address the problem.

What do you base this opinion on? Should we encourage encourage safe handling practices of comparatively less safe vehicles or should we discourage consumers from even buying them? And can you really make a categorical statement like that without knowing... you know... the costs?

very good point...Thank the Heavens they havent decided to do a series of "dont smoke weed and drive your esuvee" adds because that would, well that would be funny as hell.
To add insult to injury, a friend of mine who moved to London last year works for the special effects house who did the CG for this ad campaign (yes, they sent the work overseas). I just think the whole situation is funny.
