Adium and iChat Alternatives...

I loved iChat when it first came out, but realized I wanted to chat on MSN at the same time. Adium had a simple interface I liked using. So I switched to Adium and lately it has been messing up a lot(i guess thats why its still a beta). Adium has frozen a lot and I never know if I am really online and if my friends are sending me messages that I am missing or what.



Anyone know when Adium will update again or if there are any programs almost as good as adium?

I just wish apple would get their act together on ichat for tiger, cuz i'm sick of having 3 IM programs: adium for daily text use, ichat for audio/video(still not fully compatible with pc's though), and AIM for the get file function.



Tigers ichat will FINALLY fix groups, and it will improve on audio and video with the new codecs/capabilities, but please enhance file transfer (get file), and allow for a more minimalist or flexible interface with tabbed messaging.

Skype is better than Adium in every conceivable way, and we should all use Skype rather than iChat.



I don't think it'll solve your problems, though: Skype account holders can only communicate with other Skype account holders, and strictly speaking its primarily an internet telephony app, but after using it for a day the next time you launch iChat you feel like the Apple app is treating you like a moron.

Proteus is hands-down the best multi-service chat client out there. It has all of your chats in one window, so it doesn't eat up screen space (tabs on the left side to switch between conversations); supports meta-contacts (if somebody has two screennames, you can group them both into a single entity), and has support for custom themes. My only qualm is that it lacks complex formatting options and has trouble with Direct Connecting. Hopefully they'll fix that soon:
