Waiting for the Updates was a mixed bag.

Hi it's me again. I toke a lot of you guy's advice and decided to wait and see if the Macs were getting the long waiting upgrade. Well from the looks of things at lest 3/4s of that has happened. When reading around though must of you think these upgrades are a mixed bag. I'm new to understanding what a great deal for the Macs are so I decided maybe I should ask again.

Should I go ahead and buy or wait a little more? I really don't mind waiting but my mom want's a new Computer also and is on the edge of her set in getting a Mac after I told her all about them. She wants a iBook at 14" I believe. I want a eMac but with no eMac upgrades it seems the new iMacs are a good machine. This is hard for me. It's just they way Apple has these Macs priced. I could get this for that much but $200 more I could get this which is more powerful but then etc. I found out after doing this I was looking at a Power Mac. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> Anyway the iBooks got their upgrade, am I right? If so I'm just waiting on the eMac but then back to me question. Should I buy now or wait. Here's the site I'm buying from. Any info you guys can give me will be very helpful! Thank you!

The iBooks had their bump back in November, and probably won't get a bump for a couple more months. Even at that, I don't see huge bumps since the 12" Powerbooks arrived... I'd expect the next iBook rev to have a slightly faster G3, maybe 256 ram (128 fixed + 128 in user slot).

As for the iMac, it's definitely a mixed bag. The 15" is just the old 15" iMac combo with a bigger/faster hd and a faster combo drive, but doesn't have the internal bluetooth or airport extreme slots. The 17" iMac is a much better value IMO, since it has the GF4MX sitting on a 4X AGP now, slots for bluetooth/aiport ext., DDR memory and a 133 bus speed. If you can afford the 17" iMac then go for that one, otherwise I'd have reservations about the eMac and iMac 15", just moderate bump (basically the same model) with a moderate price drop... the technology is just getting more and more outdated.

Edit: Also, apple has a promo for $99 mail-in-rebate if you buy an HP 3820 or 5550 printer with a mac, so if you don't mind rebates, you can buy a printer with the mac, send in the rebate, then sell the printer on eBay... you may be able to shave $50-$75 off the Mac cost if you're willing to put in some work.

Hmm... I see. Well I just read the topic about the EMacs getting their price cut of $200. Nothing major like what the Power Macs got but I'm not complaining. I mean, I'm going to save $200!! If anyone knows for sure is the updates over? If so I'm going to become a switcher.
