Apple seems to have removed superdrive option...

Is it just me???



When the new PM's came out, I custom configured one with a superdrive and put it in my cart, I went back today to buy it, and that is no longer available. They have taken away the option to change the drive in that system!



In fact, they have also removed RAM, and HD config options!!!



All I can say, for lack of someone providing an explanation is WTF!!!!!!

    I wonder if it isn't just a website problem. I'm sure they wouldn't take away the ability to add memory, hard drives, optical drives, and graphics chips (all the options currently missing).



    They are still available at the Canadian Apple Store, for example.



    I'm sure it will be back to normal soon.

    Those options seem to have been removed from only the base PowerMac config. I checked the dual 1.25 and 1.42's and they still have those upgrade options available.

    Yeah sorry, I should have been clear; it seems to be just the 1ghz machine. It just so happens to be the one that I want! <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    If that's the case then you're probable better off getting the extra stuff aftermerket to save a few bucks. The DVD-R drives show up all the time on dealmac.com for less than $200 and RAM is pretty cheap from almost anyone nowadays. Instead of upping the drive on the base model just add another.



    I know this sorta defeats the convenience of getting it all in one lump from Apple though.

    I agree, but I just can't get over how completely insane it is to do that to the PowerMacs!



    I suppose we will find out, but it is still showing that way on the Apple US web site...

    Hey! Maybe they'll remove it from the consumer site altogether by the end of the day and make it education only!

    What's really weird is that Smalldog has the machine custom configured with a superdrive for $1699.

    Why in the world would Apple do this?



    Don't they make all their money selling overpriced ram and graphics cards.

    Even the eMac is more customizable then the low end Power Mac.

    The only reason that I can possibly think of is that they are going to discontinue it, and dont want to offer any BTO option on it at all.



    Any other ideas?

    It's a glitch, folks.



    Click on continue and you'll see that some funky options are selected for you. 2x80 GB HDDs, 3 DIMMs, etc...

    Click continue, and it says you get a 1 GHz, 2 80 GB HDs, a GeForce4 Ti video card, 1.5 GB of RAM and a SuperDrive for $1499.



    Click continue again to confirm, and the specs are back to normal..



    Yeah, I'm sure this is intentional.

    Damn, I just saw that and thought that if I could put it in my cart, I could get all rowdy with them and say "hey the site said..." ;-)



    That would have been one hell of a deal!
