Powerbook here I come :D
Hi, windows xp user here (boo microsoft), just ordered me a new powerbook complete with the 128MB 9700
Everything else is standard (I downgraded the superdrive as I didnt need it).
I am right in thinking the 128MB 9700 will be able to handle the new Tiger features yeah?
I'm afraid I'm a complete mac noob, but thats half the attraction; OSX just looks soo .. mmm
Anyway to the point - As I'm starting out (I have only ever used OS9 - I think - [whichever OS came bundled with the 1st Gen coloured iMacs]) I was wondering if there is any must have utilities that you guys recommend? Just things that your average windows user would find really cool...
Sorry its a vague question but I'm quite looking forward to getting my grubby mits on it

the latest version of the handy little firewall Lil Snitch.
I would also recommend Intego NetBarrier as a heavier software firewall.
I assume my mac will arrive with Panther, do you think I will get any sort of rebate on Tiger.. or will I have to shell out thr 150 like everyone else...

You should be able to get a discounted price within 90 days of Tigers'
release if I'm not mistaken.
A few apps that I couldn't do without are...
VLC - Video Lan Client media player.
Quicksilver - Coolest little application launcher ev-ar.
Weatherpop - Sits in the corner and tells you what it's like outside.
Some others that you might want to check out (if only for the wow factor)...
Desktop Manager - Organize open apps across multiple virtual desktops.
Access iTunes - Allows you to stream your iTunes music on your Mac to any web browser anywhere.
Salling Clicker - Control your Bluetooth enabled Mac using a Bluetooth enabled phone.

This thread has a good list of 'essential' apps.

i swear by QuickSilver and VLC helping me with my current bout of clinical depression... when you get your hands on those including *ahem* content to play with VLC, you'll know what i mean...
