Essentially no loss in signal due to electromagnetic/radio interference from computer to monitor. My LCD has analog/dvi switching and the dvi is considerably sharper than analog.
It makes more sense to use the digital signal striaght from the video card rather than convert it to analogue for the benefit of the monitor which will then convert it back to digital again.
Doubtless the monitor manufacturers have got it down to a fine art and there's no signal degradation blah-blah-blah, but I can't see any benefit in a two-stage conversion process over a no-stage process...
