My G4 Cube might be faster than your new Power Mac in a few months

Cube-Zone.com is reporting that Powerlogix might release dual 1.4 Ghz upgrade cards for the Cube. The cards would use the new 7457 G4 and offer 512 kb L2 cache and 4 mb L3 cache per processor. The processors will use less heat and power then current G4s because they are made on a .13 instead of .18.

If this does happen it will be pretty funny when Cube users can have a computer that is faster than the latest Power Mac. (the bus will still be slower but the enourmous cache will make up for this)

Moving to Current Hardware as this deals with the Power Mac G4 Cube and current G4 towers.

Not to be critical but the product has not been released and the 7457 chip is future hardware

Actually we're discussing a possible future upgrade to the cube. I vote for future hardware.

4mb L3 per processor? Yikes. Is the cube daughter card different from those of the AGP PowerMacs?

Faster cube ? Yes, but at what cost ? Anyway, my new G4 will be much faster later, when I'll add something in it. Each one his turn 8?)

I am still thinking of having our cube here upgraded. but because of the slow 100mhz bus I wouldn't bother with anything over a dual 800Mhz. Powerlogix lowered prices today so maybe I'll go ahead.

Sigh... my cube wont be upgraded ever cos its JUST BLOWN UP AGAIN!!! I've tried 3 brand new hard drives (3 different makes) and each time my cube packs up and stops booting after a couple of weeks....

Edit; Brought new motherboard so I might stick an upgrade in at the same time ....Dual 1.4 Ghz ... hmmpf doubt it

I like the sound of dual 1.4 w/4 megs of L3 cache per processor but this sounds like the sort of upgrade that may cost as much as a new midrange machine.

Given that the Dual 1GHz upgrades turn a Cube into a fairly expensive room heater, I wouldn't hold out much hope of seeing two 1.42s in there, nice as it sounds...

    Still, I just ordeedr a single 1.2GHz, whoo-hoo!
