emac specs: SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW); writes DVD-R discs at 2x speed, reads DVDs at 6x speed, writes CD-R discs at 8x speed, writes CD-RW discs at 4x speed, reads CDs at 24x speed
iMac combo specs: Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW); reads DVDs at 8x speed, writes CD-R discs at 32x speed, writes CD-RW discs at 10x speed, reads CDs at 32x speed
plus this little bit with the iMac: 60GB or 80GB Ultra ATA 7200-rpm hard disk drive
so faster HD and faster burning on iMac...and lovely flatpanel that swivels and bobs...
with the eMac....superdrive for dvd burning and larger screen....
of course i already have a superdrive....kids like faster burning....of course if i was buying today i would go for the 17" iMac, but that wasn't the question....
I own an LCD screen but always suggest the eMac over an iMac for anyone not looking to buy a luxory computer. LCDs are nice are bought almost entirely because they are 'cool'. If suffering from eye strain, an LCD might help. However, moving your screen, (if possible) to a more ergonomic position, alleviates eye strain more effectively.
While the iMac's footprint looks smaller at first, add in the speakers and it becomes much messier than an eMac with its adjustable stand.
I think it boils down to whether you'd prefer to pay extra for the gee-wiz factor or save your money and spend it on something else in life.

Or, I'd save that extra little bit and go for the 17" iMac.
Then again, I don't like the eMac at all, so would never consider it.
Sorry I couldn't be of help. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
