Faster iBook Performance?

If I were to use an external firewire hardrive that is running at 7200RPM, would I expect a huge difference in the iBook's performance if I were to boot from that external firewire hardrive. I have a 700Mhz iBook, 640MB of Ram with 20GB of HD space(not really sure how fast the RPM is on this, but I think it's somewhere below 5400).

I have exactly the same computer, and I have a 7200 RPM external firewire drive which is significantly faster than the internal drive. I used Xbench 1.0, the "Disk Text" on both drives. Internal: 42.01, external: 65.99. The external drive scores 1.57 times the internal drive. I don't boot of the external drive, but playing Warcraft III off of it is noticeably faster than off the internal drive.

Booting off the external 7200 RPM drive also works just fine. That's how I do backups and regular disk maintenance. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

    Ditto.

Saving to my external 7200 drive is like a lightning strike compared to saving to the internal drive.
