For anyone interested, there's a C|Net review on the 12" Powerbook:

<a href="http://reviews.cnet.com/hardware/0-1027-404-20783399.html?tag=sd"; target="_blank">http://reviews.cnet.com/hardware/0-1027-404-20783399.html?tag=sd</a>;

There's a couple errors in the review from what I skimmed of it.

Quote from the C|Net front page:

[quote]

Apple's tiniest notebook is a little heavy and a little light on features, but it's just so pretty and small.

A little heavy? It's 4.6 lbs! And it has just about all the features one could want in a notebook. What did they want? One of those glorified miniature typewriters from Sony?

I'd like to know where he's finding these magical prices.

    12" PowerBooks for only $50 more than 12" iBooks? I'll take 2.

lol yeah that was the first (lol I think it was the first anyways) and most blatant error. I even thought for a second maybe he was comparing to the 14.1" iBook price (old price), but even that wouldn't work.

Wow....I just looked up the dell Latitude C400

which is their 12.1 inch "sub" notebook

    $1,729

    you get:

    1.0 ghz pentium III-m

    8x DVD drive

    256 SDRAM

    30 GB HD

    random integrated intel graphics chip

    Windows XP

    that's absurd!

    the 12 inch powerbook

    $1799

    You get:

    867 g4 processor

    256 DDR SDRAM

    40 GB HD

    Combo Drive

    Geforce 4 420 go

    OS X

This is the first time I've ever seen an apple computer totally romp all over a pc configuration....I can't believe it! and its dell of all Pc makers!

the only perk in getting the Dell is the fact that it is only 3.5 Lbs.

    bluetooth

Looking over dells site, its hard to believe that their subnotebooks are so expensive compared to their "high end" notebooks(which start at like 1,200)

These reviews consistently get things terribly wrong, I guess we know they arent Mac users.

It seems that dell consumers are being screwed when it come to laptops. Well, its fair, cos mac users are screwed when it comes to desktops. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

This feature doesn't exist on the 12" PB.

Folks, the difference is weight. The smaller and lighter the book, the more expensive. You can get a powerful desktop computer for the same price as a high-end Pocket PC Apple does not make a sub-note. They make a small note, but that's about it. Now you can argue that their size and features are perfect for you. But don't compare it to a book in a different category. Look at the 5-7 lb Dells and Compaqs. If the PB line sheds one or two pounds, then they can be compared to the super expensive PC sub-note products.

PC Magazine has their own review of the 12" Powerbook, which seems to be a heck of a lot nicer... strange considering I think PC Mag falls under ZDNet, which is part of C|Net? Maybe I'm wrong.

    Anyways, here ya go:

What I'm wondering is why they said the price was $2098. They seem to be listing the same specs as the 12" Combo Drive model, which is nearly $300 cheaper at $1799.

Did they add on the price of an Airport Extreme card, plus base station, and fail to mention that?

I thought that at first, but that's the tested price. It's the Superdrive model with the Airport option added.
