Anybody have any recommendations on 20 Inch TV's? I recently purchased a Toshiba but the picture isnt very good so back it goes. I was thinking about buying a Panasonic. SONY quality isnt what it used to be lately otherwise I would have gone with them.

I am actually paying $82 to get an older SONY TV fixed because its black and I cant seem to find anything other than silver TVs nowadays.

The 20 inch Im looking for is for another room.

Thanks

What kind of TV are you looking for : CRT, LCD ?

Concerning CRT TV, I think that Panasonic is indeed a good choice. I was also disapointed by the low quality of the small LCD TV, so may be for a 20 incher CRT is certainly a good choice.

I will suggest you to take a 100 Hz one, for lowering the flickering issue.

Haven't seen too many 20" 100 Hz TVs. Most tend to start around the 66 cm market. I'd suggest looking away from Sony. Philips and Panasonic both have nice 20" flat screen tvs.

We have had excellent luck with Zenith and RCA on low end tubes, Sanyo is also good from what I have seen,

Sonys are good too but for a low end CRT, over priced IMHO.

Our current TV, a 27 inch RCA was purchased at wal*mart for like $190 and it has the best non-hd picture I have seen outside of studio equipment. It even has component progressive inputs

As for high refresh rates: not sure of the exact model, but at work we have some small RCAs that have VGA inputs and adjustable refresh rates, I am not sure of the price but they are cool because you can run a PC into it and use a tuner card and have an HTPC with email and a web browser.

You are right : I assumed badly that 20 inch was 66 cm.

Thanks for the replies. I am lloking for a 20 inch CRT.

I thought about RCA and Philips but was concerned about reliability. I think the Panasonic is supposed to be quite reliable.

Of course, so is Toshiba, and the 20 inch was screwed up right from the start! Theres always a lemon in the bunch I guess, but now I have to lug the thing back to best Buy with a bad hand. Then, I will have to lug the new TV back home from wherever. Oh well.

Another vote for Panasonic. Sony still hasn't figured out that they don't get to charge a premium when they're not offering anything better, and in terms of reliability, worse.

Also you might take a look at Samsung, who for my money have the best bang for the buck in rear projection DLP boxes at the moment.

Your right, silver is the color du jour. If you want different, wait. Whatever's next, rest assure that's all you'll be able to get.

You didn't mention if you expect to be looking at much high-def. One nice thing about CRT high def sets is that they do a much better job of scaling standard definition video than fixed pixel screens. I wouldn't buy a high definition flat screen if I expected to be looking at much broadcast SD TV because it generally looks really terrible; on the other hand a nice 16X9 high def ready CRT can do a great job with DVDs and broadcast SD as well as HD.

I mention that because, at this point, I don't think I'd buy non-HD stuff, the change over is well underway and in most places you can get plenty of good over-the-air content with an inexpensive antenna.

Still, for SD you might check out this:, available at circuit city et al and a really nice set for just a few dollars more than the cheepos.

    this is probably not helpful,

but i saw a Sharp Aquos LCD 45" HDTV in person. 1080i, not even 1080p

    f8cking amazing...!

US $8000 or so for the 45" i think

Sharp Aquos in the smaller sizes 20-30" range, might be sweet

That was the 20 inch I was looking to buy-the Panasonic model at circuit city. You're right about SONY nowadays. My old set was worth it but the new ones arent.

I am mainly going to use it for broadcast TV, some DVD, however Im just running the signal through one of my VCRs so it wont even be component output, just coax which seems to look pretty good to me.
