Given there's no daughtercard, is there any way to upgrade this machine short of a whole new motherboard? Will third party companies come to bat and come up with a solution?

Then again, it might be just as cost effective by selling my 15" model on eBay and getting a new 17" 1Ghz model.

added a 'p'. not sure what "ugraded" is. - murbot

If you want a better processor then you have to replace the motherboard.

Just like the 7200, PowerBook 3400, and most modern Macs. At least with the 7200, you could put a 7500's motherboard in and then upgrade the processor... with the iMac, you'd have to upgrade the motherboard every time you want to improve the processor.

There is a differance in port layouts between the 800 mghz iMacs and the 1ghz iMacs so you would have to replace more than just the motherboard.

Well, perhaps I'll just crank up the RAM and get the most out of my 700 iMac.

Then save up for a new Al GHz 15" PB.

    And oh, thank murbot.
