Plenum Cat5 cable????

Is plenum Cat5 cable the same thing as Low Smoke Zero Halogen?





And why does cable installed in Air handling spaces have to be plenum?





Also, why, if you're mounting an AIrport BS in an air handling space, i.e above a suspended ceiling - does it have to use Power over Ethernet, rather than its own PSU?

    Ok... your first two questions - the answer is obvious from the second hit for "plenum" on google.



    If you are installing a Airport in a spot that is going to be far away from both a network jack and power, how many cables would you like to run? power cables and wall warts (the transformer) are also (small) fire risks, and the low power transfered through POE is a much smaller risk than a full power cable (especially over long runs).
