So, as this was recently released, and is totally free, I downloaded this the second it came out. I have two macs:

Dual G4 1Ghz, 1GB DDR Ram, Geforce 4 Ti4600

Powerbook 1.33Ghz G4, 2GB DDR Ram, Radeon Mobility 64Mb, 80GB 5400rpm HD

Ok, well here was me thinking that performance was going to be similar, at least in the same league, the GeForce has 128Mb of Ram but is a generation behind the Radeon in my Powerbook.

How wrong I was! My PowerMac runs the game at playable fps all the time at close to maximum settings (single pass lighting instead of multiple pass) at 1280x1024 resolution. In contrast my Powerbook runs like a dog - 800x600 medium settings, can get pretty jerky, in other words you're dead before you know it.

My question is, how is performance for you guys, and should I be expecting this difference, or does it seem a bit too much of a gap to you as well?

I think your problem lies with the Hard drive. If I use my external as a boot drive at the 7200 RPM then my PB flies, if I use the internal 40 GB 5400 RPM drive, then it is a dog. Not with the game you are talking about, but in general across the board...

As it happens I have an external Firewire 800 LaCie 320GB 7200rpm Big Disk Extreme, I'll try what you suggest and run the game from that, should be interesting to see the results.

Yeah, WolfET is dog slow on my 867 Rev A Powerbook 12". Even on the lowest settings, there's still some jerkiness. Pity. It's a really fun game.

Maybe I can scrounge up the money for a new iBook this summer...

do you have your CPU set to not throttle down as well. I havd played online and other players who were using Ibooks said it ran great(I havent tried my ibook, but it plays great on my g5 imac)

I did forget once when testing UT2004, but I was sure this time whilst assessing the performance of this game, it was set to highest. Weird. It's also better running form my external fw800 7200rpm drive.
