So, I have a 1.67GhZ 15" and I want to upgrade my 80GB Hard Drive to a 100GB. I'm looking at this one, but am wondering about...

1. will the new SMS work on a new drive, or is it drive specific?

2. I'm assuming there are no 7200RPM notebook drives that I can get?

3. Is seagate a good buy?

4. any other thoughts I should be considering?

Newegg has your drive for $30 less.

There are no 100GB 7200RPM notebook drives, as far as I know, but there are 7200RPM notebook drives.

I love Seagate. My favorite HD manufacturer.

    External firewire drive, perhaps?

    re: firewire

I have two of those! both LaCie, one 160GB, and one 200GB. I want my on-board drive to be bigger... too much music, photos, etc that I can't really move to an external drive...

I'm assuming the upgrade isn't really that hard?

No. Well, not on the older TiBooks.

I can't imagine that they would make it more difficult. If you have a torx wrench you can do it in a few minutes without breaking a sweat.

won't upgrading the drive yourself violate the warranty?

uh, as long as it doesn't void applecare, I don't really care about the warranty.
