iTunes 'stops responding'

I can't tell when or why. But iTunes sometime during they day on my computer locks up. I have tossed preferences. Tossed the playlist files. Finally resorting to deleting and reinstalling the actually program. (which was tricky as I had to find the 'reciept' thingy.

What can I do? I can't force quit it, it won't respond to any command. Doesn't matter if I launch from Dock or App folder.

Ideas on further purging steps?

Is it playing a specific song when it locks up or is it locking up when idle?

    Idle.

I have Acquisition running most of the time... so I'm going to give that a break for a while to see if integration is the issue... but in any case... no... I just walk up to the Mac, turn on the screen, and I have no iTunes window, but the icon is 'running'.

I have *lots* of music in my collection. I'm going to start by axing the last 20 or 30 added tracks to see if that helps. Then I'm going to repeat the preference tossing...
