Anyone noticed how annoying the Apple Store Employees got?

It used to be fun and interesting visiting the Apple Store every time I went to the mall, and it still is... Until you buy something.

I still remember buying my Powerbook and first iPod a year and a half ago, and it was a wonderful experience with how helpful the representatives were.

But nowadays they seem to be pushing the Apple Care a little too much to my liking, to the point of angering me. I went in to buy a pink iPod Mini for a friend. All I wanted to do was just buy the iPod and be on my way. The guy was not only slow at pulling the iPod out of his drawer, but pushed Apple Care on it over and over and over again. He talked used every possible scenario that could leave the iPod dead and my wallet empty. Wanted to make me say, "So you?re selling me an inferior product?" It took 20 minutes for him to ring up the stupid iPod; he had to talk about every small detail of Apple Care, even after I said I already knew about it.

If I wanted salespeople like this I would just walk over to my nearest CompUSA.

Next time, I'm just gonna buy my stuff from Apple's website, or walk in with a "Hi My Name is" sticker that says, "I already know about Apple Care. Leave Me ALONE"

not sure if you've seen the stories on this and other sites, but apparently apple corporate is pushing the sales staff just as hard to sell those applecare add-ons. i forget if it affects bonuses or even so far as to affect job security outright, but get used to it. to apple, it's free money, so long as the unit doesn't fail within three years.

On the day the shuffles came out, I was in an Apple store, and one employee said to another: "that thing is junk."

Too many of the employees represent the "bad" side of Mac users, ie, the really arrogant and hopelessly inexperienced ones.

I've found that my experience at Apple Stores to vary from store to store. My friend's ipod earphones were going bad, and popping a lot. We went to one store and he asked to get them replaced. It was quick and painless, the whole process took about 5 minutes and we were on our way.

I was having a similar problem with my earphones, but ignored it until i heard how much better my friend's new ones were. So I brought mine into a different store to get a replacement. The guy asked to listen to them. I handed the earphones over, he plugged them into a display ipod and stood there there for at least 3 minutes listening to music to hear the problem. Finally he decided there was nothing wrong. I insisted that they could be better. Still listening to music, he eventually gave in. He said he'd get some replacement ones from the back room. I stood around for about 10 minutes while he got them. Then I had to wait in line for him to ring them up or something. He said he needed to put it into the computer. So I waited another few minutes in line at the register. Finally I was up. He tried to scan bar codes that wouldn't read (all 5 of them on the packaging). I stood there for at least 5-10 minutes while he pounded away at the keyboard and attempted to scan barcodes.

I asked him if i could just take the earphones, and he said he needed to put it in the computer so he could give me a receipt. I said I didn't want a receipt. He replied that he would "feel better if he gave it to me." On top of this, he need to get the manager because he did not have approval to do replacements.

He never asked for the ipod serial number, or my personal information, so this was purely for internal inventory and there was no reason for me to be there. I was getting really pissed off now. Something which took only 5 minutes at one store was pushing 35 minutes at this store. I made it quite clear that this whole thing was extremely aggravating for something so simple. FINALLY he got what he needed in the computer and printed out a receipt. He handed me the receipt, which I immediately crumpled up and threw it back down on the desk and walked out.

But even if I buy a product and I want Applecare with it, I would never buy Applecare until my warranty is about to expire.

Why? The warranty is for the same period anyway?? You get two extra years on CPUs and one extra year on iPods... period. It doesn't matter when you buy it (as long as it is within the first year.)

You do miss out on 270 days of phone support if you wait tho.

I did some seasonal stocking and salesfloor work back in December for an Apple Store. You'd be correct to assume Apple Corporate pushes the AppleCare. It's almost becoming like Target with their Target Visas.

However bear in mind Macs are AWSOME computers but they still can break. I had a failed hard drive about a month or so after I purchased my 1.5GHz, 15 inch PowerBook and I was glad I tacked on that extra $349 for the AppleCare. I've also had some issues with the Virex and Backup since that I was glad I had AppleCare for.

While it might be annoying, mind you an AppleCare Protection Plan can be just as beneficial to you as it is to them, if not more so for you.

i've mentioned it before, but the logic board failed on my wife's pismo powerbook with TWO WEEKS remaining under her extended applecare warranty. the laptop's logic board and hard drive were replaced for free, and it's still running panther 15 months later as a result. heck, it'll probably still be able to do the basics for another year or two. that'll make it six or seven years worth of usable service. best investment i ever made.

    You're telling me....

I went into my local Apple Store to buy AppleCare and the sales guy asked me if I wanted to get AppleCare for my AppleCare.

I've spoken to some Apple store employees lately and it has been a very nice experience. No pressure. Well informed answers.

The closer to Cupertino, the better the service from Apple Stores, I guess.

Just my luck I'm on the wrong coast.

And I agreed, it is still a good experience speaking with the apple employees. as stated in my post, ""It used to be fun and interesting visiting the Apple Store every time I went to the mall, and it still is... Until you buy something."

    Until. you. buy. something.
