NEC has a new wireless video transmission technology using the 60GHz band, and has already developed a palm-sized transceiver just for it. Video and audio signals are digitized into a signal measuring about 1Gbps, at which point they?re transferred using ?ASK,? the same high speed transmission used in optical fiber.     So, the start-up Apple?s looking at might be able to help with a codec that compresses an awful lot without requiring as beefy a CPU. Or Apple may be forced to include a specialized video chip."

    Apple includes the HD codec in the next QT, but turns out the codec computationally outstrips the hardware, so they must buy a company that makes another codec to get things down to manageable levels?

    I think the 60GHz stuff is years away from being real products. Apple will probably wait for it to be standardized before they use it.
