Just was trying to set up some print sharing and can't get it to work. I am able to get the printer recognized by the laptop, but once I tell it to print it says it can't open the connection.
Describe what you are doing and what is going wrong better. What is the printer? What OS's are involved? What drivers are you using? Have you taken care of any potential firewall issues? etc...
I am using the latest version of os X with a HP PSC 2210 all in one printer. I am trying to do the sharing over my airport network. I do not have any firewall enabled.

I need help too!
the printer is a lexmark x75 AIO (I just need to print) connected to a Win XP home box, all firewalls disabled connected via soho router/switch combo The problem is lexmark requiers installation of a propriatery print managment app, windows can share this app to other windows units but cannot share the macosx version - So I tried the CD, it will not let me install the app unless the printer is connected to the mac via USB, which defeats the whole goal of network printing around the house.
(I know I need a better printer, I know lexmark is crap but you go to war with the army you have, not the one you want)

Right, open system preferences click print and fax then set up printers. In the new app click add then from the pop-down list select Rendezvous if this does not work try the other options. Your printer should appear in the list - make sure it's on first. Once it has been found choose the driver.

Right, you'll need to configure this in Windows, make sure Printer sharing is on, go to printers and check the options - I have no access to a PC at the moment. From the Mac follow the steps above until you reach the pop-down list - select Windows Printing. Btw you'll have to have the network configured with a workgroup name etc. but I assume the network is already up and running. Once you've selected the printer choose the driver from the pop-down list at the bottom (Generic is selected by default).

Thanks, but that is what I have been doing since day 0, I have been using the generic driver, and tried a few lexmark drivers, but the x75 print driver isnt listd by default, and I cannot install it from the site download OR the CD, so I feel sort of screwed...

My Epson is installed on my Mac but it isn't in the windows printing section - so installing the drivers may not help. I'd try either waiting for Tiger and installing all Lexmark drivers during installation of putting in your Panther DVD/CD and doing it now.

you don't have to re-install it, but it still may not work. Right in the Panther CD/DVD, enable hidden items (use TinkerTool or something similar). Then go to Mac OS X Install Disc 1 > System > Installation > Packages > LexmarkPrinterDrivers.pkg

did it, no new drivers added...they must have been installed from the factory

urgh! I can't help, even if you did attach the printer an install it wouldn't help as the drivers wouldn't appear in that section. Obviously your printer isn't supported, I'm sorry to say that. I would recommend either an ethernet printer or a different model and use USB.

Well, so much for lexmark when they say "we support mac" they are lieng - those bastards! hate to say this but I hope it breaks so I can justify a new printer (that is it, I will not touch lexmark again - even if it was free which the current one was)
thanks for the help, I think I will email lexmark later today and bitch untill I find a solution....
You need special drivers for Windows Printing, I think drivers you install from the web and CDs don't appear there as I have two Epson Stylus Photo RX600s; one installed on my Mac and the other on the Windows machine, I can print wireless to the Windows one but the RX600 drivers aren't there just a generic Epson. BUT try connecting the Lexmark and installing on your Mac and then see if it works, it may be possible to reverse the sharing as in have it connected to your Mac and print wireless from the PC.

How is 206amphib getting on?
re lexmark: why dont you share it off of your mac? Or at least hook it up to your mac to install the drivers, and then put it back on the PC.

I suggested this!
