A second opinion on my third-generation iPod?
On Saturday, I reported to Apple SoHo with a bit of a problem. My iPod III 15 GB model, itself a replacement for another iPod in December 2004, has been showing difficulties with some files. When it encounters them, it resets itself, and sometimes won't play anything else, as if its battery died. Now, these music files have no problem on my iBook or even my Windows machine, but somehow, the iPod goes screwy at times. I've gone through maybe four restores since March.
Also, consider this Disk Utility entry:
Repairing disk for ?iPod?
Mounting Disk(S,"Checking HFS Plus volume.",0)
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
The volume iPod appears to be OK.
Repair attempted on 1 volume
HFS volume repaired
I spoke to a SoHo genius about it, but he claimed this is normal. I never had my first iPod randomly reset for any reason. He also claimed the HFS entry is normal, and it will always appear. He would not entertain further assistance for me. For that matter, I don't believe the HFS entry is normal, and I for one don't remember my iPod's predecessor doing this.
So, is something wrong with my iPod, or is the genius correct? If I'm right, what options are left for me?
