modem on iBook g4 933mhz seems to have died

suddenly i'm getting just a "Could not open the communication device" error on Internet Connect



could it be that i was fiddling with Locations in Network Prefs? Unlikely...



i *have* checked that the phone line works, there is a dialtone, etc. etc.



anyone experienced this issue?
