Tiger available on P2P Networks - a shame

What do you think about the "release" of Tiger on various P2P Networks?

Personally, I think it is a shame that something like this can happen. I mean, it´s just a few days until the 29th of April, and this very moment, some people have nothing better to do than literally stealing money from Apple.

Tiger really deserves it´s price - thats just the same as walking into the Apple Store and stealing the box.

Why would someone do something like this?

Lots of reasons. Now you may not agree with them....

    1) They are cheap/broke/bushsized(downsized)

    2) They have lost sight of the value of software.

    3) They know the value, but just don't see who gets hurt, so don't care.

    4) They know the value, and they know who will get hurt, but still don't care.

    5) They bought a new Mac Mini 1 day before the Now Up To Date offer went into effect.

    6) They *can*, so they do.

you forgot the biggest reason: curiosity

You hype the crap out of such a product, you can bet yer bottom that people want to get their mittens on it asap.

Bragging rights, trading material for other P2P networks, etc. are reasons.

And anyway... they get what they deserve in the sense that these people will take the brunt of any bugs, critical problems, etc. Just like with Panther, a lot of the people that got affected by the Firewire problem were these "early adopters".

"Without them" many many more people may have been hit and lost data.

Im not trying to justify or condone, but there are positive sides as well as negative ones.

It's interesting. When I was in college I stole music all over the place like the next guy. Pay money for rights to use Freeplay in a video that's not for personal use? Forget it.

Since I've graduated and become a "professional," my maturity has forced me to have a new appreciation for such things. Now, if I want music, I buy it on CD or iTMS. Most everything now that I have (with copyrights attached) is 100% legit. It's only right.

By the way, the whole argument that because you're using something in education -- or that you aren't charging for it so it's okay -- is a bunch of crap.

I haven't gotten my discs from the ADC yet, so I'm wondering if this is the real deal. I have gotten plenty of dev releases, though.

Same here. It's not even available on connect.apple.com for download yet. Oh well, patience is a virtue.

I always expect Apple to release a retail version that is not the same as the one "everyone" says is the GM, but Iit's never happened AFAIK

Now, I just spent 9 hours driving back from NAB, so I am a little worn out. (Take with salt.) I'll spare the full rant but OMG do you have a thing or two to learn. I'll just point you to a term called "fair use" back in the day when copyright laws were fair for both the holders and users and struck a justified balance between their aspirations. You may have graduated and now frown on this, but analyzing, reproducing, incorporating, modifying, experimenting, and finally creating copyright work is essential in education. More so in some fields than others. If this is crap, than it is crap that drives the evolution of culture.

Well I've preordered Tiger but I also downloaded a P2P version out of curiosity.

Ebby, the education use to which I refer are the claims that, because all my college buddies are all in school, it's okay to share music with everybody on campus through the file server set up in my dorm.

Don't forget about the scores of students who have illegal copies of Office, iLife, etc. etc. on their machines because "I'm using it for school, so it's okay."

I've gone through the "school" and uni phase and am now on the job market since a few years and I actually HAVE money to spend.

5 years ago even the thought of buying shareware wasn't even a consideration.

In the last few years I've bought so many shareware licenses for stuff that I really consider is GOOD stuff. But these same types of apps I never couldve/wouldve bought years ago. My latest buy was Synergy. Awesome app for iTunes.

Anyway, I've seen my habits change in time... I'm guessing (hoping) everyone goes through it.
