Heyas, am wondering what you recommend as a kick ass Mouse for OS X? Ie- I have one of those mac mice with 2 buttons and a scrollwheel- and the cursor is jumpy as hell.
I just bought, and am very happy with, the Logitech Mx1000 Laser. This sucker is kind of pricey, but it's wireless (without delay), smooth, and quite versatile in what you can do with its 8 customizable buttons!

I really dig Logitech mice. The first mouse I ever bought by myself was Logitech and I've had maybe five more after that. I think Microsoft is Logitech' biggest real competitor and while they also make an okay product I have always felt Logitech is a step better. (not due to my dislike for the company.. I did buy and like a Microsoft keyboard!)
The most basic of the basic, Pilot Mouse Optical, works great. I believe you don't get better value in mice.
I'm now using MX310, which has three buttons more. However, I only *use* one button more than on the two-buttons-plus-scroll basic mouse. (Assigned to Expose - Show Desktop.) The rest of the buttons are in unergonomical locations. The MX700 had one usable button more than the MX310, but I don't really miss it.
Anyway, I'm gonna stick with wired mice for the time being. I don't like the combination of choices available on the wireless mice. I'd like a rechargable Bluetooth mouse with on/off switch in bottom and the three buttons + wheel I use on the MX310. I could compromise on the rechargable feature, but if my mouse is "wireless", that has to mean there is no cord connected to either the mouse or the computer!
If any of you guys uses a trackball, would you mind telling me what they are good at? I never had one, used only for minutes so I can't tell at all what they are like.
Buy the MX510. You won't be dissapointed; it's perfect.
A very cool mouse indeed.
To the MX1000 owners and to anyone who has a tilting scroll wheel - does it work? Is it a worthwhile addition to a mouse? Does the MX1000 implementation work well? Is it bad ergonomics to use one (compared to regular vertical scroll)?
I never tried the Logitech drivers, but USB Overdrive works perfectly.
I have a 1024x768 screen, so I tend to start scrolling right and left in iTunes and Excel and weird webpages that are too wide.
I've had no issue with it, works great You can also set how many pixels/spaces to jump by. Its not smooth, but it gets the job done. Maybe next version of USB Overdrive... unless its an OS issue.
Battery wise, it last a solid 2 weeks before it gets to one blinking light, and thats with HEAVY use. The charger takes a few hours, and then its nice and charged up.
I'd give it a 9 out of 10 so far. I havent tested it with heavy gaming yet though.
I'd love to have an MX518 model (variable DPI) with Laser. That, I think, would be a very very kickass gaming mouse in terms of precision. I dunno how useful the side scrolling would be in gaming, but as long as you dont need it to do knee-jerk actions, it can be counted as yet another button at your disposal.

yea, it's a great mouse. i bought it a few weeks ago since my bluetooth mouse (ms bt explorer 2) skips a lot as soon as there is some wireless traffic in my network. the battery is quite good too and having a recharge station is definitely a plus.
I've heard lag issues with the MX1000 when you pick the mouse up/place down, can anyone comment on this? This would make playing some games very difficult, i.e. first person shooters, where you need to lift the mouse up while turning.
Yes, the tilt wheel does work just fine, but the Logitech system preference doesn't have a setting for adjusting how much it moves the window left or right. It essentially ends up being that one click is one punch of the left/right button. And no, it's not very smooth, but it gets the job done. I'd say if there was one thing I'd want improved on this mouse is the ability to change the tilt wheel settings.
As far as how the tilt wheel feels, it's great. It's very simple to move left/right and responds with a noticable click.
I haven't noticed any kind of a lag issue with the Mx1000 when picking it up, which I've done. Really, that complaint doesn't even make sense to me. Why would it lag just because you're picking it up and moving it? I've never played any FPS' on my Mac, so I couldn't tell you how it responds to them.

Works marvelously. I just wish it would charge over USB as well instead of external power. Grrr.
I still have to test it in hard core gaming, but so far, so good.
If it doesnt work out, I will be looking at the new MX518 multi-DPI mouse thought especially for gamers. linky link

I have tried 4 or 5 different brands and found that Logitech make some of the best mice around. You won't be disappointed.
