RAM install problems in old iMac G3/500MHz
hi All,
got all excited, got 512M PC133 SDRAM for my
old (15" CRT) iMac G3 500MHz for that iMovie
work.
but. it isn't recognised. the site
<a href="http://www.apple-history.com" target="_blank">http://www.apple-history.com</a>
is somewhat confusing, it says for the
iMAC Summer 2001:
RAM Type: PC100
Mininum RAM Speed: 133 Mhz
Onboard RAM: 0 MB
RAM Slots: 2
Maximum RAM: 1 GB
so one thinks one needs PC100, but then it says
min speed 133 Mhz... also, it is suggested in
e.g. Get the Most out of your iMac book that
PC133 is acceptable.
moreoever, the memory that is currently in my
iMac read:
256 16x8 SDR 133-4L (by POWMEM)
so, has anybody else experience problems installing PC133 RAM in this iMac?
cheers!

Ditto! A good 512Mb PC133 stick will work in your iMac.
The problem you are having may be due to whoever manufactured your RAM. Cheap RAM is cheap for a reason! Return it. If you can't return it, then you didn't buy from a reputable dealer.
I've always gotten my RAM from Crucial. It might be a little more expensive, but I've never had one not work perfectly!
Here's what you should do: say thanks to Apple and change the crappy RAM for that from other manufacturers until it works.
OK, that sounds reasonably, get good RAM.
the one that works is POWMWEM was far as i
can tell.
the one that does not, is Infineon or something
of that order. anyway, i am waiting for them
to get a different brand in, to give that a
go.
if it doesn't work, i see if they will order
Crucial RAM for me.
