LCD Monitors?

Can anybody recommened a good 17 inch or 19 inch LCD monitor? I'd use it primarily for my MacMini, but I also want to hook it up via a KVM switch with my old PC to play my old Windows games.

I lust after the Apple 20 inch LCD monitor, but I probably won't be able to cough up enough cash to afford it. Besides, my old PC has only a VGA connection on the graphics card (32 MB GeForce 2).

Anyway, fantasies aside, which LCD monitor do you recommend? I'm not looking to spend much more than 500 USD.

You should be able to get a decent quality 17" LCD for about $200, with a resolution of 1280x1024. Here in Ireland, supermarkets tend to sell them for cheap every few weeks, and the quality is good.

I just got a samsung 19'' LCD 1280x1024, 8 ms response for $469 minus a $70 rebate at Best Buy. It is pretty nifty, after calibrating the gamma and what not. I just got a DVI cable for it and the quality is outstanding.

IMHO 17" flat panels are better value. They basically cost half as much, have the same resolution, and you can't tell the difference. My dad currently has a 17" Apple LCD and a 19" Samsung LCD side by side, and it's practically impossible to tell that they are different sizes.

My recommendation is to choose the size based upon how dense you like your pixels.

I chose a 19" 1280x1024 lcd because it has slightly larger pixels than the same resolution on a 17 or 18 inch screen. This puts the default fonts at a size that I like and allows me to sit comfortably a bit farther from the screen.

Personal preferences vary so I recommend checking out the various pixel densities in person first.
