Using both Disk Utility and Carbon Copy Cloner, I've cloned my Powerbook to an external hard drive, however I'm unable to boot off it. Is there something different I need to do, because it always worked with my pervious external drive?

it needs to be FireWire and you need to select it in the System Preferences, but if you copied it properly (not as a disc image) it should work fine. Can u give more details?

I zeroed out the drive and tried again with more success. It boot's but the Finder's prefs didn't seem to copy over and some drivers fail to load.

Which OS are you using? a FireWire disk copied with carbon copy cloner should have no problems.

I'm running OS X 10.3.9. I agree that it should be easier than this.

Try running a 'repair permissions' on the drive.

I've run Repair Permissions several times, and the same five issues keep appearing even though it says they've been repaired.
