more than 4 HD's?
i have a dual MDD and already havefour hard drives in it.
Will it recognise another hard-drive if i put one on the other optical bay drive?
Or on the other hand will the promise ultra 66(for PC) pci card work and is their a nifty extra hard drive bay expansion bracket available for these towers?

From what I've read elsewhere, the answer is yes, but performance won't be brilliant as the optical drive(s) are on an ATA/33 bus. Apparently overheating issues are minimal or non existent as well, which may not be the case when installing a hard drive in the zip bay of a QuickSilver.
2 cents
what?
Just buy a PCI ATA controller.
Thought i'd ask first before doing it and something went pop!!
Im not too bothered about dropping the 5th drive down to 33mhz as it's for back up purposes but i shall look into whether i can get an external case and hook it up to firewire.
cheers again.
No, it's not the newest 970.. it's just an old Sawtooth with an internal FireWire connector.
ahaha!
Grrrrrrrrrr at you Defiant!!!

Ha ! I can have FIVE HD's in my Mac!

Damn, how did you manage to cram them into a Mac?!
well, as I said, this Mac has an internal FireWire connector, so I have a total of three FireWire connectors. makes five internal HD possible.

sonnet do several models, i believe they use the acard chipset for their cards, so acard is sometimes cheaper to buy direct from, and their firmware seem to be updated more regularly.
btw, i have had 5 internal HDs in my B&W case. i bought a G4 doubleheight bracket and an ATA 66 card a couple of years ago, and had 4 HDs sitting in the base of the tower (one on the mobo controller, 2 masters and one slave off the pci card) and another one in the zip slot. i removed the one from the zip slot and put my zip disk back when i swopped out the cdrom for a 24x liteon burner last year: i was concerned about the lack of ventilation, and never felt totally happy with the hd being slaved off the back of the cd/zip ata controller.
