Has anyone had any luck connecting the 20" cinema, while using OS 9.2.2? On the apple site, they say the display is only supported by 10.2.

The display is only supported under Mac OS X.
It is unsupported in other Operating Systems but still works. You get it?
It means Apple will only give you tech support if you are using Mac OS X.
Edit: You need a good enough graphics card to support it though. Very important.
