Can we do one of these deserts? It's a lot closer to me.

You know what they say. Location, location, location.

I was thinking on the boarder between Chad and Libya.

I'm assuming that you're mostly joking about going to the desert between Chad and Libya, but with that said, it's a difficult place.

    1) As an American, It's not easy to get to Libya.

    2) My parents lived in Libya for 2 years, and mention on occasion how absolutely miserable the area on the border of Chad is.

If it's an AI meetup you seek I propose Germany during the early summer of 2006.

I've already been planning this trip for over a year now - a tour of Egypt followed by eclipse viewing in Libya. At the time I signed up, it wasn't even clear as an American that I'd be allowed into Libya, but as luck would have it, US/Libya relations have improved and I won't have to settle for watching the eclipse from a boat or a tiny corner of Egypt way off the center line of the eclipse track.

The tour group I'm in is run by a company called "Wild Frontiers". I think they still might have some openings left.

Looks to me like Boise, Idaho would be nice, and probably not a lot different from the border of Chad/Libya.
