Moving windows using a key combo

I would like to be able to designate a key combo that would allow me to click anywhere within an open window and move it. Going for the title bar or edge requires too much precision when I want to rearrange several windows side by side FAST. I would prefer, say, Command + Option + Drag.

An analogy for what I want to do is Command in Photoshop. Whatever you're doing, you can always use command-drag to move whatever you select, without having to select the move tool, move, then reselect whatever tool you were using before.

Is this an option? Is there a hack? Do people have alternatives to suggest?

Would others be interested in this functionality?

Is it clear what I want to do?

    Another Question:

If I'm in a Finder window, is there a keystroke that will jump to the search tool field of that window so that I don't have to reach for the mouse?

Thanks for the reply. It was getting lonely in here.

What you refer to opens a find window. I'm talking about the Search Tool field which is in the upper-right of Finder windows.

Note to Mods: Please change the title of this thread to Quad-G5 Xbox Tablet GL0BAL WARM1NG!!! (J/K...Kinda)

Any ideas about the 1st question?

    Thanks.

I don't know if I'm being thick or just not being specific enough.

    I'm talking Panther, here, 10.3.9.

I don't want to open a find window.

I just want the cursor to pop to the Search Tool in the very same finder window I'm browsing.

This Search Tool is much faster than Command + F for my purposes. It's like in the iTunes Library where you can hit Tab and it goes up to the search field. That's what I would like.

Any ideas on the first post? Absolutely no one has desired this functionality? What a frustrating post this has turned out to be!

    Relax there, buddy.

On Panther, command-option-F will bring you the Finder's search field.

As for the window-dragging request, check this out:

Never tried it, but seems like it's what you're generally looking for.

It got a little tense here. I didn't realise Command-option-f worked! I'd been trying to avoid that spotlight finder window appearing (in Tiger). What I really miss is the selection drop-down menu.
