I moved my pics and music from my G5 (still on panther for a few more days) to this powerbook with tiger. None of my music or photos will index. i tried adding spotlight comments to files buried deep in each library to get spotlight to look there, and it did, but only to the couple of files i changed. and tips? i really don't wanna go through and do a batch change of every single photo and music file.

Go in the terminal and type the following:

    Code:

    sudo mdutil -i off / <return>

    sudo mdutil -i on / <return>

    Allegedly:

1: Add your drives to the list in the "Private" tab in System Preferences: Spotlight

2: Quit System Preferences (which deletes the old index, since your drives are now added to Private)

3: THEN remove the drives from the list you just added them to (in the Private tab in System Preferences: Spotlight). It will force Spotlight to redo the indexes, but I'm not positive how completely it does this yet.

    YMMV
