Final Cut v Adobe Premiere

I may have asked this one before but I got into another debate on which one was better....

IS Premiere the best editor out there?

Someone i am debating with says it is, and he's a film guy (or went to film and photogrpahy school). I'm not much of a debater so I can't come up with any solid proof except that I like fina lCut b/c it's easier to use than Preimere. I'd used Premiere before (an older version) and didn't like the interface or how it worked. I actually worked on the new version but it still has an ugly and non-user friendly inteface. Maybe I'm just used to Final Cut?

WHERE is there solid and accurate proof out there that Final Cut is better or what not?

If anyone can give me any articles or proof to help me win This argument I would certainly appreciate it..

THANKS!!!!

    Edited on Final Cut Pro

    Scubs TV series

Cold Mountain- Walter Murch edited on FCP

    Napoleon Dynamite- Edited on FCP

Primer- Sundance winner. Edited on Premier..Writer/Director says he'll never use Premier again LOL.

It's really no contest. Premiere Pro is a solid video editing app for those on PC who won't purchase Avids. It's just not as well featured as FCP. Have him come up with a list of TV shows or movies edited on Premiere.

Where can I find info from the sundance winner? I need physical proof in order to justify.

Well if you're talking about ACTUAL film, you're really looking in the wrong places. Avid has about a 90% marketshare there. there really is no way to prove final cut is better than premiere. final cut certainly has more marketshare (sorry, can't find exact numbers), but it really comes down to the editor. what do you work fastest in? which one is more versatile for what you'll be editing? at the end of the day, it's not the tool--it's the craftsman. debating over which one is better and trying to find proof is truly a waste of time and something that won't get you anywhere.

but for the record, i have never seen a legitimate production house using Premiere, and I think premiere is the worst editor you could be using.

Premiere is completely unusable. Crashes constantly. It's a complete joke of a product.

I graduated last year from film school here is NZ and am now working in a post production company, I mostly do the corporate vids and sports videos. Avid is definately the big programe on the market, but now that they are concentrating on PC's only, FCP is gaining ground.

After being told millions of times how crap Premiere was I used the newest version a few times now and have found it to be a lot better than what I have been told.

I would still much prefer using Avid or FCP, but the new Premiere is a very user friendly programe, if not a little bit 'dumbed down' compared to the others.

A good example is the fact I edited the film with Adobe Premiere. In addition to it continually crashing, I have found that it is just not cut out for proper film work, where something like Final Cut Pro is. Premiere is fine for home videos, but it lacks certain features that restricted what I could do and how seamlessly I could work with the sound."

This pretty much sums it up well. Those who try Premiere in a production environment soon look towards other tools. I always look at Premier Pro users as decidedly consumer. They have the opportunity to use Avid yet they choose Premiere? Their work must not be all that important to them. Yes I'm being somewhat facetious.

I agree with BigT. Premiere "Pro"(which has largely been rewritten over Version 6) is much better but it's still a low frills NLE. It's claim to fame is the integration with AE and Photoshop.

    Or their time.

To me, time is my most valuable commodity. If my workflow runs 2x faster I'll be twice as productive.
