I just updated Tiger with 10.4.1... and now Mail doesn't work! I turn it on, it asks for my IMAP account's password, and then it just sits there with the spinning beach ball!!! What do I do???
Yes, I put in the password... right after I hit "OK" is when it just sits there... this didnt' happen before the 10.4.1 update... any way I can fix this, or do I wait till 10.4.2 update??
Got to your mail folder under each account eg. INBOX.mbox, Sent Messages.mbox, etc and check the only things you have in there are a folder called Messages and Info.plist. If you have anything else go through and delete it from each mailbox then restart. That fixed my mail probs.
Edit: Should go without saying but backup your mail somewhere in case you stuff up.

I find that Mail tends to get locked out of mail servers following a failure to access the server. Other mail clients will work fine while Mail is disabled. After futzing a bit, it eventually clears up and works fine.

With IMAP let me ask the following:
What Port? 993?
What type of certificate handshaking do you use? TLS?
Look in Keychain Access.app for certificates requiring imap:// support and make sure if you need it to have it imported using the X.509 option upon importing into Keychain Access.app.
What sort of SMTP support do you have set? This will have a reference in Keychain Access.app as well. Make sure if they are there to flush them and reinstall them.
Next time you start see if it prompts you for your Server-side Imap password.
