How to burn DVD's on superdrive

I just bought an iMac G5 with a superdrive (and Tiger). I am new to Mac, so I have lots of questions about software, etc. How do I burn DVDs on this machine? Is it possible to put a copy of, say, National Treasure into the slot drive and burn this DVD to a blank DVD media?

Sorry if this question is elementary, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

Thanks

    National Treasure ? .... no .... it's copy-protected.

There is third party software available to get around this, but you'd have to get advice from the more deviant members for that

As for burning files .... just put a blank disc (CD or DVD) in the drive, it will show up as an icon on the desktop .... drag files to it .... when you're done, right click (or cntrl-click) on the DVD icon and select "burn disc".

You can also burn directly from such applications as iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, etc...

To burn a non-copy righted movie you can burn them using Roxio Popcorn. It is a program that costs like 50 bucks but it is worth it. Also, to compress a non-copy righted movie you can use the program "DVD2One X." That will compress a 7 gb movie to 4 gb with no visable quality loss. And there is a program which can remove the copyright thaty you could probably find, but I think it is illegal so don't do it.

However, I don't see what the problem is in backing up movies that you pay for.

MacTheRipper is what you're looking for - this copies the DVD to your hard drive - you can then use toast to burn a DVD-ROM (DL or normal) which you can then watch as normal. It is also possible to remove the region restrictions etc.
