Replacing midplane on iMac G5...swap 2nd gen into 1st model

I got to thinking, the 2nd gen iMacs look great (feature wise compared to my 1st gen iMac). So why not swap a midplane from a new iMac into my 1st gen.

My first question, since my experience with Macs are limited. Would this work? I would think they would keep all connections, hookups, placement, etc. the same minus the updated parts but you never know.

Secondly, where could I find a 2nd gen midplane assembly? Can I find those on ebay or at Apple stores, etc.?

Regards and thanks for any input

You could have an Apple Store get you one but I wouldn't expect it to come cheap, Apple parts typically don't. Yes you can do it though.

You're probably better off selling your iMac on eBay and buying a new one. It's a lot easier, and it will probably even save you some money.

Apple's definitely changed the shape of the 17" iMac logic board. The revision b board has a user replaceable lower fan, before it was incorporated into the logic board. I'd imagine that this would affect it's chances of going in a 1st gen. G5 iMac. It'd be nice if it did work though.
