I would think that M$ could come up with some pretty cool features if they would try to INNOVATE, rather than just copy what others have already put out there.

ok... done venting now

Utilizing RSS isn't an innovation. It's a feature that is rapidly becoming a defacto standard like internet search.

I, for one, wouldn't mind if Apple stole some idea's from M$ for a change. Why not ? I'm always frustrated that the Evil Empire steals good idea's from Apple and get away with it. Now Apple steals too, as every company, but from M$ ... That would be a nice payback

contextual menus... I believe was first on PC (not sure)

would like to see: right click dragging like in Windows. Gives you more options. Handy.

a default "start" area. Despite it's shortfalls, the idea of having a "Start" button makes it very very easy to access ALL your programs.

I know so many people that don't even KNOW there are other applications than what is on their Dock. It's sad, but its true.

I wish Apple would AT LEAST add the shortcut to the "Applications" folder on the Dock by default. Thats one of the first things I do.

I wish MacOS X would copy the efficiency of the Calendar/Hour thingy on the bottom right of the Task Bar. Double click, and you get a calendar. Brilliant. And how it SHOULD be.

Those are the things that pop into mind now.

OH YEAH!!! And how could I forget!!!

NETWORKING! And Sharing directories. Jesus H Christ MacOS X is just STUPID and ass backwards when it comes to this!!!!

Windows: Right click ANY folder > Share this folder... And bingo, off you go.

In MacOS X you can only share your "Public" folder or your entire Hard Drive/ User Directory... and you have to give you admin password to do so. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C

It might have shipped in Windows first. MS poached a lot of ideas that the Mac Human Interface group tried and discarded (like sticky menus).

Ditto. I'd also like to see this.

I have my own complaints with Windows networking, although I will give them credit for making XP much less exasperating than earlier versions.

But the anemic folder sharing capability of OS X is sad, and the saddest thing about it is that classic MacOS had the ability to share any folder easily years before Windows did... Maybe Apple will be able to address this now that Tiger has a decent ACL implementation (a much more fine-grained permissions structure than standard UNIX permissions).

I used to have this, but I have found that with Spotlight it is much easier to just type in the name of the application in spotlight and hit command-enter...much quicker and easier than browsing the applications folder if you know what you're looking for.

That's a nice tip if you know what you're looking for.

ZO's complaint is that a distressing number of people never find out about applications that aren't parked in the Dock. So the issue is, how do you give people an easily discoverable list of all the applications on their machine?

    true indecisive...

but I'm fairly certain UNIX was before Windows.

But in a geeky command line way probably.

I also thought of another thing: I'd like to see a basic "desktop sharing" function like XP has. An "Apple Remote Desktop Light" or something...
