Preloading songs for eBay?

Is this legal? Would I be allowed to keep the 2000 songs that are on my iPod, to use it as an extra reason to get people to buy the iPod that I am selling on eBay? Or, could I put them in a file, in storage on the iPod, so they can get the music on to the computer? I just don't want to do anything illegal, so sorry if this sounds stupid.

your ipod, you can leave the songs if you want... what im doing w/ my ipod, b/c im also selling mine, is that im leaving the songs, and im taking out the addresses and what not that i have in the contacts.... that way no one on there can be traced and all that for safety issues

Thats only good for your contacts! unfortunatly tho, if whomever you sell it to takes it into an apple store they can get all info on you....... if you bought with credit card, registered it, or used iTunes store. also there is no protection to you or your identity selling things on e-bay!

also I am sure if I search the net hard enuf I can find a program to run on pc or mac that will let you restore all deleted data from any type of hard drive and any1 with any type of sinister intentions can use to restore all your deleted data. If I was you I'd sync with win xp pro machine and use admin tools to reformat in fat32 and overwrite the drive 6 or 7 times or maybe disk utilities or cocktail can do same thing and overite drive 7 times with garbage and then resync and reload songs for buyer.

Unless those songs are freely available (as in, legally free), you'd probably be putting yourself at risk. Don't put anything you've ripped from CD, bought off iTMS or downloaded through Kazaa/eMule/whatever onto the iPod when you sell it.

I do have a CD full of legal downloads I made off MP3.com, various artist websites and so forth... those things should be okay to include when selling. Note, however, some of those places may include legal text about not re-distributing the songs you download, so again it's not a guaranteed thing.

For the sake of your eBay account, blank the iPod before you list it.

ok thanks guys. im starting to think that its not even worth selling it on ebay if its that dangerous anyways. i may just sell it to one of my friends for like 50 bucks or something. its just a 3rd generation 10 gb ipod so its nothing special.

Well, it's not really that dangerous. If you're worried about the data on the iPod, just plug it in and fire up Disk Utility. You can reformat the drive with that, and set it to do a Secure format (7 passes) which will wipe everything. Then just run the latest iPod updater to get it ready to go again.
