iTunes Favorites

I know there was debate about it before but i still feel that even with iTunes 4.8, it plays favorites in random shuffleing

I am not talking about party shuffle where it plays higher rated songs. In fact, i don;t even rate my songs.

Nevertheless, iTunes seems to love to play certain songs more than others. For example, it seems to love "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas more than it loves "Roundabout" by Yes. I bought them both at the same time and put them in the same playlist yet "Dust..." has a 15 play count while "Roundabout" is only 4.

Any Ideas?

I found this on iTunes on my PC, it loved playing Feeder's 'Piece By Piece'. I can't say that I have noticed one particular track playing on my Mac since October now though.

Maybe maybe it checks the songs general populairty. Either how often that song is down loaded or its average rating from iTunes users. IMHO, I like "Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes a little more then round "Roundabout". . A q u a M a c .

It's pure chance. You honestly don't think there's an Apple software engineer in Cupertino whose duty it is to hard-code his personal preferences into iTunes?

I understand it is random and i don;t think there is one conspiracy but i still have to wonder why some songs are more popular

I fail to believe that it is purely random. 30-40 plays for one song compared to an average of less than 5 per song for 400 odd tunes is enough of swing to prove it is more than luck, mathematically at least. Although I haven't studied statistical maths for a number of years now... There is a term and a way to work it out - but I forget.

Alas, it's weird, and I believe it does happen for some reasons. I don't seem to have a chosen song with my Mac iTunes though. Mentioned above is my PC iTunes; different encodings to my Mac too.

    Weird!

iTunes and my iPod play some songs more often than others. For example Portishead is played more often than some more favourable tracks. I may notice this because I always skip Portishead though, but for only 12 tracks it chooses them quite often.

    Maybe the algorithm is not a very good simulation of randomness. . A q u a M a c .

Yeah it does lack something - but then the random button on calculators is the same. I suppose if it's truly random it could choose the same song more than once but it just seems so often!

ive noticed also that a bunch of songs will have played like 22 times, and ill have other songs that have only played 1 or 2 or 4 times.... it hardly ever goes to my quiet riot songs, and ive also noticed it plays a lot of acdc...
