loss of color quality in ibook mirroring?

For school this fall im planning on mirroring my ibook g4 to an external LCD. I just hooked up my ibook to a 19" Viewsonic CRT I have at home and noticed that there is a loss in color quality with the mirror. All of the colors arent very vivid and the mirrored image seems to be much brighter than the internal LCD display.

I played around with the color/brightness/contrast settings on the Viewsonic monitor and nothing changed. Is there a way to remedy the problem? Basically I'm looking for an identical image on the monitor that appears on the internal ibook LCD. Thanks.

You should calibrate each monitor using apple's utility of other programs (SuperCal) before you compare color. Each monitor needs its own calibration profile. More expensive solutions include Pantone's Spyder, X-rite and Monaco calibration kits.
