Keynote like an NeXTWorld Flashback

Steve did the same reasoning for NeXTSTEP Intel 3.1 and beyond. Intel bragged about how serious they were to work with NeXT and summarily tanked the project as time when on which with lackluster hardware platform support we subsequently got no support from Developers and many left who weren't doing Enterprise Mission Critical Custom Application development. It's why we former NeXT employees saw the emergence of WebObjects.

Intel is giving their compiler support and low level support, for now.

It's in IBM's court to up the ante.

Steve wants leverage to have both platforms battle it out and have the Consumer win.

It failed at NeXT and let's hope it doesn't crash and burn at Apple.

By the way, the hardware is either going to have to be phased out (G5) or future revisions moved to XServe to justify a more expensive price, since Intel brags about being able to lower the system costs.

Time will tell.

Adobe and Microsoft were all gungho about Carbon and look at the lack luster attitudes.

They won't change much, down the road.

I am thinking that a lot of what was said today was for marketing only. From the news posts I read, it was hard to discern the attitudes and the audience acceptance of the presentation. I bet it was quite quiet at times.

Should be an interesting couple of years to come.
