hi gang,

all things pointing to mac using generic x86 chips, will we be able to upgrade future powermacs by just upgrading processors like current pc's?

would apple even allow this?

will the internal parts be only differentiated by the firmware or bios?

can't apple still make money from the modular parts by license fees on the said parts? so even you don't buy a whole new box apple can still make money off of upgraders. they can still use a proprietary motherboard to keep some control.

is the above probable? apple could jack up the price of the processors so they can still make a profit but will cost less for the consumer to upgrade.

The DIMMs, hard disks, optical drives, and PCI cards will be standard. The processors will probably be standard. Hard to tell about graphics cards.
