Apple jumping into bed with Intel I can cope with but John C. Dvorak writing an article that I mostly agree with is just too much.

I agree, an excellent article, I finally agree with something he says.

But the world is changing too fast for me

    eg

    pre-monday: Intel = bad

    post-monday: Intel = good

    yesterday: dvorak = anti-mac idiot

today: dvorak = respected IT commentator

I hope this trend in polarity changes ends here, I disliked Microsoft yesterday and I want to continue disliking them tomorrow.

But you'll notice that I had been making generally dissenting comments on Apple's current processors for a while now, and many other people who wouldn't admit it before Monday now feel good about it since Apple's going in the right direction.

But that's also an atypically intelligent Dvorak article.

If you are interested in Dvorak's take, you should download Episode 8 of 'This Week in Tech' podcast. John C. and Leo LaPorte had a good conversation about the switch. It was recorded the day before the Stevenote. Leo has since put up a followup Episode, 8a, as a reactionary piece.

As a side note, if you were at all a fan of ZDTV/TechTV and The Screen Savers, I suggest you listen to the TWiT podcast. Great stuff.

I must admit, I was totally wrong about the intelligence of an Intel switch. I am totally convinced, that Apple will suceed this switch, and will win some additional % of the marketshare.

I should go dig up the quotes that someone was nice enough to gather over in that other forum. (cough)

Dvorak has been making relatively unfounded suggestions and predictions throughout his career. I'd give him a break except for his assininely smug tone used in his recent "i told you so" article.

He was right this time, but only by chance. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

He was right for the wrong reasons.

Probabily his hate, for anything related to Apple, let him told this.

    Taken from a Slashdot post:

Here's some crow for Dvorak, and is what first came up from a quick google search on his predictions for Apple:

    Note the date: 03.18.03:

"Apple Computer Corp. will switch to Intel processors within the next 12 to 18 mo nths."

Oops. Nope, he's wrong here; off by a few years.

"Apple will announce its Intel initiative by showing a transition machine that us es both the Intel and Motorola processors."

No, wrong again. None of this dual-core nonsense; it's all or nothing.

"Apple will announce its use of the Itanium chip,"

This is funny. Even back in 2003 it was clear that the Itanium was a dog, doomed to fail.

"Waiting until 2004 is too risky,"

    ...

    And my personal favorite:

?The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a ?mouse.? There is no evidence that people want to use these things.? (John C. Dvorak, SF Examiner, Feb. 1984.)
