What of the Firmware?
First off one thing that the move to Intel will probably mean is more access to PC add-on hardware, such as graphics cards, without needing a Mac specific version - this can only be good.
Back to the subject of this thread: What of the Firmware? I have heard mentioned that Apple probably won't be using OpenFirmware in its new Intel based machines. At the same time I doubt that they will want to be using the BIOS either. My view point in this is that they are not trying to make a PC-compatible, rather a Mac that uses the Intel processor, and also that the BIOS should probably have been replaced long ago. Since I have not combed every news source, does anyone have any ideas what is planned as the firmware for future Macs? References would be useful.
