Volume controls--iTunes versus the computer's main volume control

I'm just wondering--does it make a difference in sound quality for music whether

1) I turn the iTunes volume up to the maximum, and control the volume with my PowerBook's main volume control, or

2) I turn the computer's volume all the way up, and control the volume with the iTunes volume control?

Thanks!

Doubtful. Unlike if you were running an audio signal through two analog audio controls, it's digital until it hits your audio out jack or laptop speakers.

Now it would make a difference on the *level* of audio coming out of your Mac in relation to the level of your external speakers' amplifier. Even then, your Mac most likely doesn't put out enough audio level to distort an input on an amplifier, computer speakers, etc.

The only thing you'll need to be concerned about when it comes to your iTunes level vs. system audio level is the other sounds that your system makes. It's probably best to set your system level at a point that your system's dings and other little sounds are not too loud or soft for your liking. Once that's done, adjust the level of your music in iTunes.
