I think he is dead on, he called the intel switch in 2k3 and he was right, about 2 years off but right on the reasons behind it.

I think he will be right again, let the hackers do the heavy lifting, then BOOM!

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Dvorak is a windbag and is paid to provoke but not for his clever wit and razor sharp knowledge of computing. Like his statement that Mactel will have more viruses. Why? Because Viruses embed themselves into Pentiums. LOL. No Macs will not see an increase in virus unless Apple gets as lazy as MS in protecting their OS.

How are some hackers and script kiddies going to develop good drivers when they don't have the source code. That's tantamount to me telling you to rebuild the Empire State bldg without a blueprint.

Nay...OS X will be hacked for PC unless Apple adds some very tough locks. Those who download OSX Intel and run it on their crappy Dell's won't provide a damn benefit for the platform unless they buy apps. Device drivers are not easy to develop I don't expect some punk who can crack a password to have the skillset to develop a device driver.

Yeah, people have been screaming from the high hills about Apple moving to Intel processors since the early 90's. Doesn't really prove anyone as a seer unless they wrote something in the last year IMO because a lot changed when Pentim M development got a head of steam, and the G5 stalled.

I'm seriously not going to click the link, but I will play swami and guess that he expects hackers to bring OS X to so-called beige boxes, and this will somehow benefit Apple greatly. This despite that Apple would not make any money on "free" copies of its OS, it would lose hardware sales, it's likely be such an inelegant trick to pull that only the geekiest of geeks will bother and any attempt to make it more mainstream would necessarily be squashed in court. But we're supposed to believe that this is all part of Apple's plan to clean up, if they can somehow make a living without revenue.

People talk about the ipod halo effect.

If the x86 version tiger has been leaked on purpose (or permitted to be leaked) by apple, then perhaps this could be an extension of the halo effect- make sure that everyone with internet access can download a 'free trial version' of the 'mac os x experience' that they've heard everyone bleating about for the last half decade.

Okay, so they don't actually buy osx but maybe they were never going to. But now they've used it and they want some more- maybe they'll splash out for some supported hardware too. Who knows how it'll all play out, but theres nothing like free advertising.

Slightly off topic there, first coffee of the day, mmm 8).

I'm just about to read the Dvorak link myself. I'm new to this guy, he comes over as some kind of comic genius.

You guys do know that Dvorak is not some Wintel biggot spouting crap about the Mac, right? He is a huge Mac fan.

He says what he says because he cares about the platform and doesn't want to see it die. Sometimes people have to say things to motivate others.

    Totally agree.

I've been a mac user for over 9 years, and even in that short space of time I've come to realise that the mac community needs the sh!t stirrers to guide us away from the disastrous complacency that nearly finished apple off in the first place.

Dvorak does bang on a bit though- from his picture, he reminds me of an ex girlfriends dad,so maybe I'm just a wee bit biased against him

I haven't looked at the link yet, but is this Dvorak the same guy that developed the single-handed keyboards?
