Cached System Preferences icons

So I recently updated my CHUD tools as part of the latest XCode update. However, the new CHUD icon doesn't show up. I still get the older, G4-styled icon. The only reason I discovered the new icon is that I installed this new version on a new machine and saw the new icon there.

I haven't tried uninstalling CHUD and reinstalling it. That procedure might fix it.

Anyone else have this problem?

OK, technically its the "Processor" Preference Pane listed in the Other section. It is added when you install CHUD tools which is an optional part of the developer tools.

It is handy as it allows you to disable processor Napping. I use it to surpress chirping sounds on my rev A G5. The newer tower I just got at work (also 2 GHz) doesn't have this problem... just setting processor power to Highest in Energy Saver is enough for it. My Rev A chirps without a trip the Processor pane after each reboot, albeit seldom.

OK, you want the Processor Preference Pane. Strange that it would not be there with CHUD installed.

If all you need it for is unchecking the Nap checkbox, do this:

Open Script Editor and paste in this line of code:

    Code:

    do shell script "hwprefs cpu_nap=false"

Save the script as an application.

Open Accounts preference pane and click Login Items.

Either drag the script file into the window or click the "+" and navigate to it.

    Log out and in.

Now every time you log in, the Nap checkbox will be unchecked.

One more thing - you may need to run the CHUD Uninstaller before trying to reinstall CHUD.

I seem to remember having the same problem with the Processor pane at some point. Just dragging the Prefpane into its folder won't work - it needs some other support stuff somewhere.

The script, however, will always work.

Its funny, normally when I upgrade the CHUD tools I run the uninstaller first, but this latest version was installed as part of XCode 2.1 and I guess it didn't uninstall the old version correctly.

I'm working at home tomorrow morning so I'll probably have time to uninstall/reinstall CHUD and tell you how it goes.

I think I'll add the AppleScript and have it auto NAP. Thanks!
