Rhapsody DR2 Intel

With Apple's switch announcement and their admission that they have been maintaining builds of OS X for Intel since the begining, I was inspired to dig out my copy of Rhapsody DR2 for Intel and install it on one of my old PCs.

The installation process is troubless on a Pentium II machine with a 440BX motherboard. The install process starts by copying the core system to the hard disk, rebooting into Rhapsody, selection of the packages you wish to install, more installation followed by another reboot. Next you are presented with a setup assistant just like OS 8. After you fill that out, it reboots, you login, and then use an OpenStep app called Configure to configure drivers for devices not automatically detected.

There is not a whole lot of peripheral drivers, but it supports a wide range of old ATI graphic cards including the Rage. For the NIC I used an ISA Intel Pro.

Nice! I was looking at my old Rhapsody discs a few weeks ago, but didn't even think of trying to install it.

I always liked the OPENSTEP/NEXTSTEP GUI for the setup. I have no idea, but I absolutely loved that GUI. Simple, but appealing.
