I have been trying to get the screws out that hold the ram shield on my ibook and I can get one out but the other is ridiculously tight. I have been trying for an hour and half to get it out but I'm starting to strip it which his making me nervous. Anyone have any ideas? I really want to install the new RAM I purchased and I am really frustrated.

Are you using the correct size screwdriver? It should be a #0 Phillips screwdriver.

I would be very careful that I didn't strip that screw!!

Yeah I have the right size screw driver (I actually had to go out and get one just for this). I have tried everything, I tried the philips head and then when that wouldn't work I even tried a flat head just to get it started, but still couldn't get it too turn. Just an observation, why wouldn't they just flat head screws to make it less likely to strip the screw.

I wish I could give you more help.

You may want to move up to the next size of screwdriver, if you have one, before you strip out the head completely. I wouldn't want to be the guy who was using a Dremel to drill out the screw if it does get stripped.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem: http://discussions.info.apple.com/we....1@.68ac516f/8

I guess I'm going to have to go to Sears and try to get this damaged screw bit they speak of.

Perhaps removing the first screw has caused the shield to shift alignment slightly.

Some multi-tightened assembly work is best suited to loosening all first, rather than removing some and fighting with alignment shifts on the remaining bolts. Push a bit to flatten it back down and it may release stress on the stuck screw.

Or replace the first screw (to re-align the shield) and try working them in different order.

    YMMV
