iPod Appears as a Hard Drive not and iPod

Recently when I attach my iPod to my PowerBook it appears as a white external hard drive not an iPod with the cross on the screen, I was wondering if there is something I could do to change this image back to the way it was defore it changed.

    You'll lose any songs you have on it, but download iPod Updater and run whatever it tells you to. It sounds like your iPod is missing it's iPod software.
