USB hard drive can't be excluded from Spotlighting?

I wonder if it's just me...

I try to add the drive to the exclude list, but it just doesn't go there. I'm doing this because it seems to be making my computer slow. Is there a fix or an alternate method I don't know about?

I don't know where your problem results from, but I had none excluding my USB-stick from indexing.

I think most drives come pre-formatted with a FAT32 filesystem, so unless you re-formatted the drive to HFS+ before using it with your Mac, it's likely the drive isn't even being indexed by Spotlight (and therefore can't be included or excluded from the list).

Macs can read and write FAT32 fine.
